Transferring knowledge between universities and business can take place through exchange of ideas, expertise and people. For EPSRC, knowledge transfer is thoroughly embedded in, and a large and integral part of, all that we do. For example, knowledge transfer is fostered through our portfolio of collaborative research projects involving partnership with research users, many from the industrial, business and service sectors. EPSRC will continue to review its plans for this area in responding to the recommendations of the Warry report, "Increasing the economic impact of Research Councils". Our role spans the basic sciences, often the source of new disruptive technologies, through to the engineering and technology disciplines where the impact on the economy and society can be more directly evident and predictable. The complexity of the UK innovation system is such that success will depend on many factors and organisations. To realise in full the benefits of EPSRC's actions, progress elsewhere is needed such as: Knowledge transfer, alongside academic publishing, becoming an integral part of the research process and being equally esteemed. Strong growth in the appetite of business for research and, in turn, that business investment in R&D meets or exceeds the Government's 10-year goal. Increased take up of innovative opportunities by the UK economy, because amoxycillin and cloxacillin. We are fortunate to have the support and collaboration of the The Henry H. Adelaide: Australian Medicines Handbook Pty Ltd; 2004. 2.2 Cefazolin Introduction Cefazolin is an injectable `first-generation' cefalosporin. It has a moderate spectrum of antimicrobial activity, broad utility, and is relatively cheap and widely available. Cefazolin is active against streptococci and staphylococci, including beta-lactamaseproducing staphylococci, but inactive against enterococci or Listeria monocytogenes. Its Gram-negative spectrum includes most Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species, but it is inactive against many Gram-negative aerobes, including Serratia, Enterobacter and Pseudomonas species. It does not have useful activity against the Gram-negative anaerobe Bacteroides fragilis and related species.1 Two injectable cefalosporins are already included in the 2004 WHO Model List of Essential Medicines as complementary drugs ; : ceftazidime and ceftriaxone. They are both `third-generation' cefalosporins, and are more expensive and have a broader spectrum than first-generation cefalosporins. As they are the only cefalosporins in the List, they are probably overused, causing greater expenditure and exerting greater impact on the development of resistant microorganisms than would occur if narrower spectrum cefalosporins were used.2 Clindamycin, cloxacillin, gentamicin and vancomycin are drugs currently in the List with related but not identical uses3: Gentamicin is used for Gram-negative bacterial infections but should be avoided in patients with significant renal impairment, when cefazolin can be a useful alternative. Also, gentamicin is nephrotoxic and ototoxic, and routine blood level monitoring is recommended to facilitate correct and adequate dosing; however, monitoring is complex and may be difficult in many settings. Clindamycin is used for Gram-positive and anaerobic infections. However, its use is limited because of adverse effects.3 It is often recommended as an alternative to a penicillin for conditions in patients who have a history of immediate hypersensitivity reaction to a penicillin. Vancomycin is a complementary antibacterial that should be reserved for methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus infections.3 Cloxaciillin is a drug used mainly for staphylococcal infection, but should not be used in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity, when cefazolin is a useful alternative. The isoelectric point pI ; and the inhibition profile of b-lactamases BLs ; with CV or cloxacillin CX ; were determined by isoelectric focusing. Hydrolysis of FOX was determined by spectrophotometry and by the cloverleaf assay. Mutations in the promoter and attenuator region of ampC were identified by DNA sequencing. Analysis of outer membrane proteins OMPs ; was performed by using the 10%SDS-PAGE system with 6 M urea. Results: Seven REP-PCR patterns were observed. Isolates were resistant to FOX MIC range: 32128 mg L ; but susceptible to AC 416 mg L ; and CTT 1-8 mg L ; , suggesting an AmpC non-hyperproducing phenotype. Seven isolates were resistant to 2006 Clinical Microbiology and Infection, Volume 12, Supplement 4 ISSN: 1470-9465. Pregnancy: this is a combination drug. GROUP THERAPY FOR PATIENTS WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDERS : A REVIEW JOS GUIMN AND WENDY DVILA Kernberg related personality disorders to early defence mechanisms against sexual and aggressive drives and highlighted the role played by the dysfunctions in object relations, established during early infancy. It is in childhood when the patient sets in motion pathological defence mechanism dissociation, acting out, projective identification etc. ; . Later studies contend that most core symptoms of the disorder, such as: a diffuse sense of self, bursts of rage, unstable interpersonal relationships, feelings of emptiness and abandonment, chronic fears of, and an intolerance for aloneness, have their roots in an impaired organization of the underlying attachment in Bowlby's sense ; . Levy et al underline that individual differences in the attachments of adult people are rooted in the early patterns of interaction with caregivers and the completion of a number of attachment measures, revealed six factors that clustered into three groups an avoidant attachment pattern, a preoccupied attachment pattern, and a fearfully preoccupied pattern ; . These patients are difficult to manage in individual analytical psychotherapy, due to their instability, which is frequently related to a loss of self-esteem and identity confusion. The course of therapy tends to be disturbed by intense transferences and various acts, such as suicide attempts, attacks of rage, and self-mutilation caused by suicidal thoughts. Kernberg recommended confronting these patients and interpreting their negative transference early on, whereas other authors in these patients. 1. FROM THE CIRCLE TO THE COMMUNITY Indeed, group therapy offers the advantages of being less expensive; making transference easier to manage; and producing an improvement in ego functioning and interpersonal functioning , and a drop in the patient's regressive tendencies . Moreover, these, for example, cloxacillin drug! In Australia, we have attempted to develop an infrastructure for coeliac disease through the development of a private charity, the Australia and New Zealand Coeliac Research Fund ANZCRF ; whose mission it is to promote professional education and research in coeliac disease through building links with health professional, patient support, and commercial organizations. The ANZCRF is based in Melbourne, Victoria but is steadily strengthening links with other Australian states and New Zealand. In the year since its inception, the profile of research has been substantially raised in the local "coeliac community", membership of the Coeliac Society of Victoria i.e. new diagnoses ; has increased by almost 20% although median age of new members is 40 years personal communication ; . The presence of the ANZCRF has facilitated a series of collaborations with pharmaceutical and pathology companies, professional societies and colleges, and hospitals to support lec. Cloxacillin for womenMore words cloxacillin cloxacillin is a valid word in this word list. About 17% of colostrum samples from heifer mammary glands infused with cloxacillin were positive for antibiotic residues by the B. stearothermophilus disc assay Fig. 4 ; . The majority of positive samples were from heifers that calved within 5 days of treatment. Only 4 of 88 samples obtained at the first milking after parturition were positive for antibiotic residues if intramammary infusion of cloxacillin occurred 7 days before parturition. All samples obtained 3 days after parturition, the time when milk would likely be marketed for human consumption, were negative for antibiotic residues. Thus, the cloxacillin formulation used in the present study should not result in antibiotic residue problems in marketable milk even if heifers calve earlier than expected. In contrast, antibiotic residues were detected frequently during early lactation in samples from heifer mammary glands infused with cephapirin. Almost 85% of colostrum samples and 28.2% of samples obtained 3 days after parturition were positive for antibiotic residues Fig. 4 ; . Marked variability between time of antibiotic treatment and parturition with persistence of antibiotic residues was observed. For example, two heifers calved 8 days after treatment and all samples obtained 3 days after parturition were negative for residues. Conversely, 4 heifers calved 10 days after cephapirin treatment and 6 of 16 samples were positive for antibiotic residues. All samples n 24 ; from 6 heifers obtained 3 days after calving were negative for antibiotic residues if intramammary infusion of cephapirin occurred 11 days before calving. Thus, it would appear that antibiotic treatment of heifer mammary glands earlier in gestation may be advantageous from an antibiotic residue standpoint. However, the timing of antibiotic treatment and subsequent persistence of antibiotics in mammary secretions following treatment could impact efficacy. We conducted another study to determine if antibiotic treatment of heifer mammary glands earlier in the prepartum period reduced the occurrence of residues in milk 15 ; . In this study, 82 Jersey heifers were assigned randomly to two groups: 1 ; negative control n 42 ; and 2 ; intramammary infusion of 200 mg cephapirin sodium n 40 ; 14 days prior to expected calving. Mammary secretions were collected 14 days before calving, and at the first and sixth milking after calving and were analysed for residues by the.
