Increased reproductive risk. The hypothesis raised by a Swedish study of an association with cardiovascular defects should be reconsidered. Our eventual yearly premium is unknown at this time. However, beggars can't be choosers. so we didn't ask. Trial lawyers paying off bank loans for Supreme Court Justices etc. I don't believe the term "affordable malpractice insurance" exists any more. I would like the legislature to make all insurance carriers provide only occurrence type policies. This would prevent insurance from obtaining a "bonus" from tail coverage thus "rewarding" insurance carrier for quitting to provide coverage. Also, I would like insurance carriers to report to each covered physician their financial statement - they are good about advertising these "jack pot" rewards by juries as a reason for their actions but my policy as limits of coverage. Their implication is that the insurance carriers are paying all of these "jack pot" rewards when in reality they are not! Yet my premiums continue to escalate! Getting way too expensive. 1 ; The problem is what you have to pay to get coverage - have to pass it on to patient. 2 ; If real reform occurs you must force insurance company to reduce rates. The Non-economic damage caps are too high on House Bill #2. There was no cap on punitive damages. Obviously we need to elect new people in the Legislature. Hopefully we can send some more Republicans to Jackson. I probably would have changed to a larger limit on my policy if there had not been any tort reform legislation passed. This would have of course increased my costs considerably over and above the 40% increase I will pay this year. This would have become prohibitive and might cause a change in my practice pattern - i.e. I might limit Medicaid patients etc. We do not have enough carriers. There are too many loopholes in the current fell to truly make a difference in the cost of malpractice insurance. Rheumatology is a very low risk. Sub-specialty with minimal minor procedures performed i. e. Joint injections. In my opinions the substantial increases in malpractice for my field cannot be substantiated or justified. I glad and proud to tell you I have been retired X 2 years and gladly leave these problems to the next generation. I probably would not have retired had there not been as much change in the overall climate of medical practice as in recent years. Intense negotiations each year to keep our insurance. None will commit more than year to year and tofranil.

Several drug treatments have been useful for bedwetting. DDAVPTM desmopressin ; mimics a hormone normally secreted at night to decrease urine production. DDAVP administered at bedtime by nose spray or tablet can prevent bladder over-filling and wetting. This medication has few side effects but excess evening fluid consumption should be avoided. Many children use DDAVP only as needed, for those nights when they must remain dry, such as sleepovers or camping trips. Imipramine, taken at bedtime, causes bladder relaxation, tightening of the bladder control muscles and a change in sleep quality, all of which can improve bladder control. Some children will experience drying of the mouth and constipation with this medication. Dosing instructions for imipramine must be followed carefully and the drug should be stored safely as an overdose can be dangerous. Other medication may be appropriate for children who have a daytime bladder control problem in addition to bedwetting.

Tricyclic antidepressants, such as imipramine or doxepin, have been used to treat urge incontinence because of their ability to inhibit or paralyze the bladder smooth muscle and lozol.

THE MULTIPLE MYELOMA LISTSERVE by Nancy Baxter Many patients and caregivers do not live close to a myeloma support group. Those who might have a support group conveniently nearby may find that the group meets at a time when they are working, busy with family obligations, or when they are just too tired to get in the car and drive. Others just don't like talking face to face. Whatever the reason, the IMF has, for many years, provided an alternative source of information and support to myeloma patients, caregivers, friends, and family. The Multiple Myeloma ListServ affectionately called "The List" by its 1500 members was founded by Michael Katz, an IMF Director, and June Brazil, a myeloma patient. At a time when the number of in-person myeloma support groups was nowhere near the over 140 groups that exist today, Mike and June sought to link myeloma patients via an e-mail discussion forum. The List has created a true "cyber family" that includes doctors and lawyers, construction workers and homemakers, teachers and salesmen, retired people, musicians, writers, and others. Members of this diverse group share their experiences, accumulated knowledge, and moral support. They discuss everything from treatments and side effects to family issues and useful tips about dealing with health insurance and improving relationships with healthcare providers. The List has created countless friendships, often between people who have never met. Recently, List members have even participated in an IMF-led online study that looked at the possible link between bisphosphonate use and a serious condition HOTLINE -- continued reduced bone density, perhaps indicating early evidence of MM ; , low levels of uninvolved immunoglobulins again, this probably means the patient actually had occult MM at diagnosis ; , age over 60, and or SPB on axial head and trunk ; skeleton region. In patients whose monoclonal protein persists after radiation therapy, the likelihood of relapse is greater; conversely, those whose monoclonal protein disappears after local radiotherapy are less likely to relapse. 8 0 0 - 2873.
